MCCSC’s calendar committee is currently creating a new school calendar for the next three years. According to the Herald Times, the committee is choosing between a longer summer or multiple breaks throughout the year. The Herald Times article also stated that over 1,000 people signed a petition against school starting the first week of August.
Sophomore Montana Addison said that she too is opposed to the earlier start of the school year.
“I think it would be a good idea to make some breaks shorter. Thanksgiving is only one day, so I feel like we shouldn’t need a whole week for it. Also, I feel like there isn’t a real reason for fall break,” Addison said.
Junior Clancy Lyles said she would prefer a longer summer over short breaks.
“Breaks are nice, but I think I would like more time to relax in the summer,” Lyles said.
Students interested in voicing their opinions on the new school calendar can attend town hall meetings on either Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at South or Sept. 24 at 6:30 at North. Students can also share their ideas here.
