Tonight marks the opening of Stages Bloomington’s musical, Quilters, by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek.
Quilters follows the lives and experiences of American frontier women through stories, songs and quilts. The show features an all-female cast and focuses on the women of the era to counter the traditionally male-centric narrative of the period.
The local production features South students senior Ava Vanderkolff and sophomores Payton Gross Natalie Schacht, among others.
“The show tells stories in a really unique way,” senior Ava Vanderkolff said. “People should come see it because it’s a powerful and heartfelt show, especially for women.”
Performances are at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, 10 and 11, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 and 11, all at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students and children. You can buy tickets here.
