After a successful regional competition, the Bloomington South cheer team has advanced to nationals held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The competition was held at Pendleton Heights High School on Sunday, where South performed two routines with the goal of receiving a nationals bid to Florida. In order to qualify for nationals, a score of 75 points was needed. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams qualified, but only the varsity team will be competing in Florida due to financial restrictions.
“I think it shows how hard we’ve worked,” sophomore cheerleader Natalie Hall said. “To make nationals again this year is a really big accomplishment for a young team like ours,” added Hall.
Sophomore cheerleader Madisyn Piercy also commented on her experience from nationals last year, “to go to nationals as a freshman was an amazing experience. All of the months of hard work leading up to it feels very rewarding when you get to finally compete.”
The varsity girls will have a few months to prepare themselves, as nationals begin Feb. 8.
