On February 10, South’s very own cheer team traveled to Orlando, Florida to attend the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Disney World. Junior Quinley Bowden and the rest of her team were full of excitement as well as nerves. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication in preparation for such a big event. “A whole month before nationals, we had two-hour practices every day and morning practices. It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it in the end,” Bowden said. During Bowden’s freshman year, the team didn’t make it past prelims, so she was dedicated to making this year rewarding. In the light of success, the team placed 11th out of 108 teams. “It was very nerve-racking, but we did very well. The cheer team has never gone to nationals. We were all crying with excitement because we felt that it was our best routine ever,” said Bowden. The team has more confidence than ever for upcoming seasons because of their success this year at nationals.
