On the 23rd of March the Sounds of South choir group went to the Heritage Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee and won a lot of awards. As a group they won the Outstanding Choral Group Award, the Adjudicator Award, and an ISSMA first place gold rating for the concert choir category. Gwen Witten, the Bloomington South choral director, won the Best Director Award and Matthew Griffin won the Ovation Award for his four years of Sounds of South leadership.
SOS also placed fourth in the ISSMA state competition May 7.
“Because of this competition, we qualify to go to Carnegie Hall,” said Witten. Sounds of South will be competing at Carnegie Hall, in Manhattan, in 2023 since they did so well at the Heritage Music Festival. .
