The 2022-2023 Indiana University men’s basketball season is in full swing. The team has started off strong with an undefeated record so far, winning both of their regular season games last week. On Monday, Nov. 7, the Hoosiers triumphed over Morehead State by 35 points. On Thursday, Nov. 10, they defeated Bethune-Cookman by a whopping 101-49.
Many South students are Hoosier basketball fans as well. On game days, IU apparel can be seen throughout the halls on students and staff.
Senior Kya Seibert is very excited for the season. “It’s an electric atmosphere in Assembly Hall,” Seibert said. PLATO supervisor Brenda Chokey said she had “not been in a venue that does it as well as Indiana.”
Indiana University junior Anthony Leal is a BHSS alumnus and a guard for the Hoosiers. Chokey said “Who doesn’t love Anthony?”
The energy of the student section is felt by all of Assembly Hall. Sophomore Zoe Gray said the student section is “Really fun to be near because they’re absolutely insane.”
Because of the overflowing amounts of talent and potential starters for the Hoosiers this year, expectations are high for the season.
Seibert said “Obviously you want them to win it all… I think they’ll receive a spot in the NCAA tournament and go pretty far.” Gray said “I don’t think we’re going to go super far into March Madness.”
On the other hand, Chokey has high hopes this year, predicting “Big Ten champs for sure and a Final Four appearance.”
Woodson’s career has also impacted predictions. “It takes a couple years after hiring a new coach,” said Gray. Chokey expects “another banner before Woodson retires.”
