As the months fade from August to September to October, more and more fall fanatics emerge out of their vegetable filled cornucopias to post photos of their pumpkin spice lattes on Instagram. I, however, am sick of fall. By the time September hits I am ready to crawl into a hole and not come back out until April.
I am sure many of you reading this are appalled at my apprehension to fall into autumn, but after experiencing 16 fall seasons, I can safely say that it’s overrated. It’s an entire season of disappointment. For starters, nothing is safe to wear. It’s not cold enough to break out your winter jacket yet, but not hot enough to just wear a jacket without freezing.
The biggest disappointment however, has to be the leaves. While I must admit the leaves in Indiana are beautiful…it really only lasts for about five days. After that, everything is brown, barren, and rotting. What’s the point of loving a whole season just for something that is hit or miss?
Of course, just when I think I can start to enjoy fall, I get hit with seasonal allergies. I can withstand allergies in the spring because at least everything around me is blooming and coming to life. On the other hand, in fall everything is dead or dying. How can you expect me to find the will to get up in the morning when I feel awful and everything around me is brown and wet?
But hey, there’s nothing wrong with liking fall. At the end of the day, I don’t mind it so much. However, I don’t know how many more images of pumpkin spice lattes on my feed I can take.
