Theater South’s production of Lord of the Flies will have its first performance on Saturday, November 16th, in the auditorium. Why should students go see the play version of the book? The story is already familiar to many students at South who have completed a freshman year English class.
When asked why she decided on this particular play, Theater South director Catharine Rademacher stated that, “[the play] is sort of like a cautionary tale,” and “with the way things are now in the world, I thought it was a good message to hear again.”
Theater South plans on taking their own unique and interesting approach to the play. “We are incorporating ballet into the play and people aren’t gonna be prepared for that,” Rademacher said. Theater South plans on utilizing many interesting props, as well as special effects which include fog and fire.
A very intricate set has recently been set up on the stage of the auditorium, in preparation for Saturday. “Working on the set is very fun,” and “this set is huge – it’s like a giant playground.” Rademacher said. The fairly new addition of the set to the stage means that actors and actresses have only recently begun rehearsal in this new environment. Despite this challenge, Rademacher believes that her dedicated students will rise to the occasion on opening night.
Theatre South’s performance of Lord of the Flies will be November 16th, 22nd, and the 23rd at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10 for students and $12 for general adults. Tickets are on sale at www.theonstage.com or scan the QR code which can be found on fliers that have been placed around the school building.
