At the end of the night on November 8th emotions were high as South football had triumphed against Bloomington North in sectional finals. North had previously won earlier in the season 31-14 but in the rematch south easily took the win with a stunning 27-3 upset.
South Panthers (7-4) will now host the Castle Knights (9-2) in regionals Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. South is coming in hot with momentum winning their last three games ready to make it four. What are some things to look for while watching?
Both teams’ running backs, junior Braylen Townsend for South and senior Max McCool, both lead their team with 24 touchdowns each this season. However, Townsend edges McCool in terms of average rushing yards a game as Townsend averages 163.1 yards a game while McCool only has 154.6. However, junior Gabe Taylor still insisted that “their run is something that we need to stop for sure.”
Both teams also have strong quarterbacks, sophomore Duncan Combs for South and junior Boden Morgan for Castle both are trying to lead their team to victory. Combs this season has 19 passing touchdowns with Morgan only having 14. Combs also leads completion percentage with .650 while Morgan only has .566.
One major strength going into this game noted by Wes Fulford is the team’s offensive line. Fulford is sure that “Our offensive line will definitely out-physical their defense line” and Taylor agreed, reinforcing how strong our offensive line is. They also said to lookout for South’s outside linebackers with Taylor saying “if the ball is run on Godar’s side we have a good chance of stopping it.”
