As 2024 comes to a close, several dictionaries have published their respective “words of the year.” Oxford Dictionary said that it’s “brain rot,” while Collins Dictionary said their word of the year is “brat.” We decided to ask students at South what they believe the word of the year should be.
Senior Noah Lasher said “stillwater.” When asked to expand he simply said “those who know.”
Senior Audrey Adams said the word of the year is “brat,” because, in her opinion, “brat is a mindset,” rather than just a word.
Sophomore Kaden Lang said that the word of the year is “radical” because “it’s swag.”
Senior Aidan Hendrick said that the word of the year is “rizz” because “that’s the only word [he] hear[s] people say a lot.”
Senior Roman Ross said “vertex” because “the US is experiencing a momentum shift away from social progression and toward traditionalism.”
