2024 was a big year for memes that went viral, particularly on TikTok. We picked out the top ten best memes that made us laugh this year. 

1. Henry Danger

The top meme of 2024 was the Henry Danger meme. Featuring various clips and pictures from the Nickelodeon series Henry Danger. People across social media took these pictures and added their own relatable captions. This particular variant of the meme includes the term “fine shyt” which became a popular phrase for someone you find attractive; it’s been used across multiple different memes and trends since its rise. 

2. #ihatemybf

Coming in at number two, #ihatemybf. Girls have been taking different pictures and clips of distressed people and turning them into satirical memes, captioning the pictures with something about being annoyed with their boyfriend, and then using the hashtag.

3. Chill Guy/Girl

Rounding out the top three, we have the cartoon drawing by Instagram user PhilBBankss of a dog dressed casually titled Chill Guy. The original meme started when people took the cartoon, captioned it with a scenario, and ended it by saying “but it’s okay because I’m just a chill guy.” Girls then took the meme and added their own spin to it where they would put bows and wigs on the dog, calling it a “chill girl.”

4. I Just Want to be Part of Your Symphony Dolphins

This particular meme features this image with the song “Symphony” by Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson playing in the background. People would post this on social media with a random thought captioning the picture or they would make an edit with this picture and the song.

5. He Wants That Cookie so Effing Bad

This meme takes place in a Starbucks dessert display case and features a cake pop side eyeing a chocolate chip cookie. People then said that it looked like he wanted that cookie because of his relatable facial expression. This original version inspired many variations and other memes that contributed to the cake pop’s storyline. 

6. Chicken Little

This meme features various pictures from the Disney movie Chicken Little. Social media users loved the relatable captions and soon spread them across multiple platforms.

7. Robot Staring

This meme surfaced after Elon Musk’s unveiling of his new Tesla Android, where people started comparing the android to the robot from the movie “I, Robot.” People would take this robot’s blank face and insert the caption “my face when” or “me when.”

8. That Feeling When Knee Surgery is Tomorrow

While the origin of this meme is unknown, the Grinch’s mischievous face with the caption “that feeling when knee surgery is tomorrow” quickly spread across the internet. People even started drawing the meme on tests when they didn’t know the answer and would post their teacher’s comments.

9. “Hear Me Out” Cakes

  The “hear me out” cakes are a spin-off of “smash” cakes that are cakes where people would stick pictures of people they found attractive on top. This then got twisted when women on the internet started putting people and characters that aren’t typically considered attractive and saying “hear me out,” for example the Lego Ninjago characters, or Lord Farquaad from Shrek. Things quickly got out of hand when people would start putting letters and numbers they thought gave off attractive vibes.     

10. Toy Story Penguin

Finishing off the top 10, people took this picture of Wheezy from Toy Story with this disappointed look and would top it with funny and relatable captions.
