Bloomington South prides itself on offering a wide range of classes and a diverse curriculum, but no school is perfect, so we asked South students what classes they wish they could take that are currently missing.
Catya Murray, the current painting, printmaking, and digital media teacher, said she would like to see South offer a textiles class, which would include, “weaving, baskets, dying things, and working with fabric and fiber materials.” It has been offered before, but not for many years.
Junior Gwendolyn Roeder said she “wish[es] [South] had the other part of Anatomy because we get the first part but then we can’t finish it.” She also stated a want for more of the health sciences classes.
Senior Ben Walter said South should “offer a class about taxes because every person is going to have to do [taxes] when they grow up and it would be really beneficial.” Although, with the new Indiana Diploma, students will be required to take a personal finance class, so South will be requiring this course in 2025.
Junior Jaclyn Hillenburg said she would be interested in taking a book club type of class. She said everyone “would decide what we would read as a group… [and then] talk about it.” Hillenburg thinks this would be a fun class to take because people would be “willing to read it and not forced to read these school books that no one likes.”
Sophomore Molly Zike wishes South offered “more agricultural classes because [she] thinks South needs to learn about that more and that there would be a lot of kids who would want to take [an agriculture class].”
Junior Jonathan Massey thinks South should offer either a psychology or philosophy class because “it’s been something [he’s] been into for a while, and it would be nice to explore that before actually having to choose in college.”
