Dress in your sparkly best tonight for South’s winter formal. The event is in the atrium and is from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.. Tickets cost $10 and are being sold at the door if you haven’t gotten them already.
Many had questions regarding the location of the winter formal this year. Sophomore Adley Lawrence, who is one of the four sophomore advisory board class officers, said that confusion among the student body was their main concern for a while, but eventually decided it would be easier for people getting from the basketball game to the LGR. “It fills more space, so it feels like there are more people there even if there aren’t and it just feels like there is more going on.” Another one of the four sophomore advisory board class officers, Lana Garraux stated that “[they] decided to move it to the LGR this year to give it a closer environment to kind of make it feel like there are more people and a more exciting event with people closer together.” Garraux also mentioned how a bigger area causes less peer interaction. “When we have a bigger area, people kind of go in their own groups and everyone is not including everyone, so we thought that if we had a closer room, we think that people will interact with each other better.”
As opposed to previous years at South where the only dances were prom and homecoming, the sophomore advisory board wants to make a memorable and fun winter formal that everyone can enjoy. Lawrence said, “We are trying to make it more of a big thing. I know that homecoming here isn’t even the best of dances, but it is the last main dance before prom and so we are trying to get more people of any grade to be involved with it.” Garraux added how “[they’re] hoping to get some juniors and seniors, but our target audience is the freshmen, so [they] will see how the turnout this year goes.”
