How addicting is the hit mobile game Brawl Stars? Senior Elijah Fischer said, “I can’t go more than three hours without a game.”
Developed by Supercell, a mobile gaming company based in Finland, and released in 2018, Brawl Stars is a multiplayer online battle arena game all about coordinating with your team to win in the various modes offered. The gameplay mainly consists of 3v3 multiplayer where you’re trying to beat the other team at various objectives. The game consists of 91 different characters and constantly receives updates-adding more depth to the game.
Since 2022, it’s been a popular game at South. Every class probably has a couple of brawlers in it. But why is the game so popular? We interviewed several top brawlers to find out.
Senior David Ciucu said that Brawl is “fun to play with [his] friends.” This notion was seconded by Fischer who said “I usually play with other people.” This is likely due to the team based nature of the game. However, because players enjoy the game, it often gets very addicting.
Senior Sam Schwing said, “if the teacher stops talking for more than five seconds, I’m already playing Brawl Stars.”
Although Brawl Stars is currently played by many high schoolers, they might lose interest in the game after graduation. When asked if he’d continue playing, Ciucu said that it “depends if the people around [him] are playing.” Schwing predicted a bleak future for Brawl Stars. He stated that “Supercell will get money hungry,” and that the game will die.
