As the 2025 school year comes to an end, seniors are experiencing the virus that has impacted every senior class before them– the dreadful senioritis.
Teachers discuss classwork and daily activities, but seniors are starting to daydream about life after graduation- infinite summer days, no homework, organizing their dorm room for college, and enjoying a break after four years of hard work. They are weeks away from graduating, and everyone is counting down the days until school is over.
Senior Macy Hays said, “Senioritis is like being 100 meters away from the finish line in a marathon and face planting and losing.”
This virus is not curable, but Optimist has a list of ways that seniors can ease their symptoms.
- Continue to build habits that prioritize mental and physical health- exercising, getting at least eight hours of sleep, balancing school work and taking care of yourself, and spending time with family and friends
- Spending time outside after school will allow students to complete their credits to graduate while also getting the vitamin D they need to survive this virus
- Space out final studying so studying does not feel overwhelming once finals hit– avoid procrastination as much as possible
- Find ways to make being in school more interesting– all done with classwork or need a quick brain break? Draw/sketch, read a book you’re interested in, play cards with friends (if appropriate time and place), and/or make a summer Pinterest board
- Take breaks from homework– clean/organize your room, cook dinner for yourself and your family, watch a movie or TV series
- Senior Gianna Stanton suggests two iced coffees and a Celsius energy drink on days where senioritis is worse than usual
- Try to have a positive outlook on senioritis. Dacia Kieffaber said, “I admit I’ve been experiencing [senioritis], but what really are the consequences? It makes me feel alive!”
If you are struggling with this virus and it seems to be getting worse, Optimist hopes that these tips are beneficial to you until summer finally arrives.
