Senior Ben Zumbrun recently won three awards in printmaking at the Scholastic Art Competition. These awards included one Gold Key and two Silver Keys.
Zumbrun said that the competition wasn’t really on his radar. “I was just made aware of it by my teachers, and I wasn’t going to enter,” he said. Nevertheless, he was encouraged by Cindy Chrzastowski, his art teacher, and ended up entering three printmaking pieces, all of which received awards.
Zumbrun got involved in printmaking when he was a sophomore. “I wanted to make T-shirts,” he said. Since then, he has taken the class four times and has also taken other art classes, such as drawing, to use the time as a lab for printmaking.
As for future plans, Zumbrun plans to either go to a specific art school or major in art at a larger school like IU, UCLA, or Yale. “There’s no way I’ll do anything in my life without art,” he said.
