The girls’ soccer season got off to a bright start Saturday with a 10-0 blowout victory over Jasper. Jasper is usually good competition for South, with a close score, but the Panthers scored early and didn’t slow down.
The first goal of the game was scored by Gaelle Wells eight minutes in. Wells kept her foot on the pedal ending the night with a hat trick, three goals. Before the first-half buzzer, the Panthers tallied six goals.
Senior forward Emily Byrd was very happy with the team’s performance, “I thought we played well together, and our passes were good.”
As the second half rolled around, South rounded out the score with two more goals from Wells, and two from Byrd. South outnumbered Jasper 22-8 on shots taken. The Panthers defense was solid, with goalie Brynne Newland tallying three saves.
