South Football is riding a three game win streak as they look to defeat rival Martinsville and win their fourth consecutive sectional championship. Back in August, South dominated the Artesians 34-17, but much has changed in the time since.
South (6-5) has been on a roll the past two weeks as they advanced past Whiteland and Bloomington North. The offense, led by sophomore quarterback Jake Johnson, has been able to run the ball effectively and put up high scores. If South is to walk away victorious, they must limit turnovers and force Martinsville to put the ball in the air.
Martinsville (6-4) narrowly edged Franklin Community in their first game of the Sectional, besting them 24-21. The Artesians’ offense has been run-heavy of late, featuring running backs Brandon Dodson, Isaac Osborne, and Travis Griffey. Dodson, a sophomore, leads the team in rushing with 670 yards. Martinsville ran the ball a whopping 56 times last week, and with South’s secondary being a dominant force all season, the game plan won’t change.
Bloomington South plays Martinsville at 7 p.m., Friday at Siderwicz Field in Martinsville.
