On Nov. 17, author Jamie Ford visited South and presented to freshmen and sophomores currently enrolled in honors English classes. Ford, who wrote Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, answered many questions from the students, all of whom had read his novel before the start of their freshman year.
When asked about challenges he faced in writing the novel, Ford said that “the hardest thing was just allowing myself to write a very personal story,” adding that he was worried that “no one would care.” Luckily for Ford, the book was received with great acclaim, both in the United States and beyond.
In addition to writing historical fiction, Ford mentioned that he also writes short stories, essays, and poetry about a variety of topics.
