South’s defense dominated Friday night, shutting out BNL in a 28-0 victory over the Stars in the season opener. While the defense played a great game with almost zero errors, the young offense also proved themselves a force to be reckoned with. Sophomore Gavin Yeskie’s first varsity performance was an impressive one, passing 15 of 21 for over 190 yards. Yeskie threw 54 yards for the first touchdown pass to Senior Jeb Drew early in the 2nd quarter. Yeskie didn’t stop there, he threw another 32 yard completion to Senior John Earl Rochell-Manns late in the first half. However, Yeskie isn’t the only lower-classman who proved themselves Friday night. Sophomore Kristian Pechac dodged Bedford’s defense and ran 58 yards for the 2nd touchdown of the night. Overall the team seemed to be working very well together with many players getting in on the action.
South will play Martinsville this Friday, the 28th, at home.
