Among the confetti, noise makers and clinking champagne glasses, there is one fact about ringing in the new year that cannot be denied: the resolutions are hard to keep. However, year after year people continue to make them, filled with hope that they can use the changing date as a way to better their lives. This year, I have chosen to monitor the resolutions of four people over the next few weeks in attempt to help them keep their goals.
Kristen Morgan- freshman
The resolution: “I’m going to try to drink one soda a week for a few months, then eventually give up drinking soda altogether.”
Estimated time it will be practiced: Two or three months.
Lara Breithaupt- sophomore
The resolution: “I want to finish at least three (practice) Calculus AP tests because I really need to.”
Estimated time it will be practiced: Until the end of January.
Olivia Schmitt-Metz- junior
The resolution: “I’m going to be basic and try to exercise and go to the gym more, but who knows if it will actually happen.”
Estimated time it will be practiced: Until the end of summer.
Malachi Britton- senior
The resolution: “I’m going to try to spend more time with my family and take more showers.”
Estimated time it will be practiced: A few weeks.
From everyone in the Optimist family, have a safe and happy New Year!
